Medical Information

Employees are requested to complete a medical and health information questionnaire at the time of employment.  The HR office holds information about current telephone numbers, emergency contacts, and information about families away from home. Medical Insurance claims are submitted by the staff member directly to the Insurance provider. HR staff will assist as needed.

If there is an emergency and we cannot contact any of the employee’s named emergency contacts, we will take the employee to the nearest most appropriate Health facility, usually Hebron Medical Center or Royal Phnom Penh Hospital.

General Health and Wellbeing

To keep staff and the community safe, if you are unwell, do not come to work. Please notify your manager as soon as possible. See the sick leave policy and 2760 - Leave Policy.

Infectious Diseases

If you think you may have an infectious disease, please stay off school, see a Doctor (to confirm the diagnosis) and inform the Nurse and your line manager.  The Nurse will recommend a care plan and advise on exclusion requirements if necessary. See details under policy 6130- Health and Safety (First Aid) Policy.

Onsite or HOPE  Event Injury

In the event of an onsite or HOPE sponsored event injury, an Injury Report Form must be filled out by the supervising staff or nurse.

Only basic first aid equipment is kept at school. This is administered by the nurse or a designated member of the staff.

Medications

Employees are responsible for their own supply of self administered medications.

In the case of unforeseen minor medical concerns (headaches, cramps, high fever) during working hours, the nurse may provide an initial dose of appropriate medication to be given.

Medical Conditions

Suppose an employee has a serious medical condition, eg. Asthma and/or moderate or severe Allergies. In that case, the Health Officer should be informed in writing, and any necessary PRN medication(s) be kept in school.  Email nurse@hope.edu.kh

In the case of severe Allergies, the employee should carry an Epi-pen and a 2nd Epi-pen must be supplied and kept in the Nurse's room.

Please note that some employees have severe allergies to certain foods.  See details under policy HOPE Food Allergy Policy

Immunisations

Various authorities recommend immunisation against the seven major diseases before employment. Inoculations include diphtheria-pertussis (DPT), polio, measles, mumps and rubella. The following are also strongly recommended: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, plus Covid boosters. Please discuss any other medical issues with the HR Manager and/or Head of School.  There are hospitals in Phnom Penh that can administer and provide immunisations for a reasonable price. Visit the Institute Pasteur du Cambodge for the types of immunisations that are offered here.  Vaccination(s) for Dengue fever are starting to become licensed in some countries & we recommend considering the vaccine as Dengue is endemic in Cambodia.

Covid 19- Requirements

Unless there is a medical exception, all staff are required to have a COVID-19 vaccine in order to be on campus.

HOPE supports the development of resilience, ongoing wellbeing, and exit debriefing among their staff through access to various wellbeing service providers who are skilled at addressing spiritual, mental, physical and emotional needs.
